Progressive rock was a movement within rock that started in England at the end of the 60's. It developed out of a need to explore the technical and music limitations of popular music. Traditional form and meter were thrown out the window in favor of a more impressionistic approach enforced by stage imagery to support the music. During this period bands that developed the genre included Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd. Today the old distinctions of prog have faded but it lives on in the challenging "art rock" music of Flower Kings, Spock's Beard, Porcupine Tree.
My foray into this murky broth was Sweet - a concept album about a juvenile dinosaur that has a great struggle to find his way and survive.
Working on a project with Rik Stirling we call "The Experiment". Out attempt to put together a new prog group of songwriters and virtuoso musicians.
